The SSB interview
A 5-day assessment: screening (intelligence test + picture perception & discussion), psychology tests (TAT, WAT, SRT, self-description), group tasks (GTO) and a personal interview, followed by a conference. It tests officer-like qualities – you cannot cram for it, but you can prepare by understanding the process, staying fit, reading news and practising group discussions.
Permanent vs short service
- Permanent Commission – full career until retirement.
- Short Service Commission – usually 10 years, extendable; option to apply for permanent commission.
Course fees, seats, exam patterns and salaries change over time and differ between institutions and states. Use this guide to plan, and confirm details on official websites before you decide.
